Help SEMNOX create an end-to-end manufacturing solution in Asia that could quickly ramp up production.
Apply Design for Manufacturing principles in component selection to reduce unit cost and lead time.
The Outcome
SEMNOX produces 70,000 units of the Edge RFID Reader, a best-in-market product with less than 0.5% repair rate.
The success of the first project initiated a long-term partnership with Titoma. By 2021, we have 5 electronics in manufacturing and 3 designs under development.
SEMNOX Module Testing
Problem Identification
During the early production runs, our factory partner identified that module testing times were slower and negatively impacting production time.
Our development team had designed a fully firmware-compatible replacement WiFi module. This helped our problem analysis by establishing a reference point against the original testing times.
We provided the factory feedback to our client, alongside our problem analysis.
Problem Solution
Based on our feedback, SEMNOX developed a special WiFi testing firmware that reduced testing time by 50%
Titoma’s replacement module, built based on ESP8622, alone reduced component costs by more than 16%.
The solution, alongside other improvements reduces overall manufacturing and unit costs by 25% and ensures high reliability production runs for the client.
Continuous Development
The first product was manufactured in 2014 and has sold over 70,000 units with less than 0.5% failure rate.
In 2017, projects 2 & 3, the Parafait Lumin, hits production. Continuous manufacturing optimization further reduces costs and failure rate to <0.3%.
By 2021, Titoma has 5 products in manufacturing with SEMNOX and 3 designs in the pipeline.
Results
Today, SEMNOX generates over $15m USD in annual revenue as a top solutions provider.
They have 120 employees in 5 global offices distributing products to 2000+ locations across 50+ countries.
Their overwhelming success is, in no doubt, due to their extremely talented software team in creating innovative IT solutions.
